Zipwhip + The National Black MBA Association:
Supporting Black Leaders of the Future
Discriminatory policies and racial inequity affect Black Americans in many major facets of life, including higher education. In 2019, 29% of the Black population aged 25 to 29 held a bachelor’s degree or higher, compared to 45% of the white population in the same age group. This has led to a vast underrepresentation of Black people in fields of science, mathematics, education and engineering.
According to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Black Americans make up less than 5% of the technology industry’s workforce in Silicon Valley, and the percentage of Black people that hold executive positions in the industry may be as low as 1%.
As a growing technology company, we feel a great sense of responsibility to help build a more equitable industry. That’s why we’re committed to helping Black students earn college degrees and enter the workforce with greater opportunities. We’ve partnered up with The National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA) to lighten the financial burden of college for one Black student and provide resources to aid in their success as they pursue their degree.
The selected student will receive $5,000 from Zipwhip for college expenses and an annual NBMBAA student membership, which includes access to their career success network, professional development, local chapter virtual events and more.
All applications must be submitted by June 14, 2021 and we will announce the winner on Monday, July 19, 2021 on the Zipwhip blog and the student will be contacted directly.
