On Monday Zipwhip announced that we closed a $9M Series B funding round led by Voyager Capital. Microsoft Ventures and public technology infrastructure companies GCI and Inteliquent also participated in the round. You can read the press release here.

A huge thank you to our investors! This funding comes at an exciting time in the telecom industry. We plan to use the new capital to enhance our product offering, further grow our sales team, and manifest our vision: that within five years, every business number will be textable. Watch Zipwhip CEO John Lauer’s statement below:

We received an overwhelming amount of interest from the press. TechCrunch wrote a great in-depth piece on the announcement, describing the state of the business messaging industry. Author Ingrid Lunden speculates about the involvement of Microsoft in the round, noting that “the startup is definitely working in an area of growing demand.”

Geekwire wrote about us too, focusing on the eternally relevant nature of SMS. “Zipwhip’s growth is a clear indication that SMS is still an important, and lucrative, messaging platform,” reporter Taylor Soper writes.

We also scored coverage from Seattle Times, Puget Sound Business Journal, and Geektime. Not bad for a scrappy startup, eh? A heartfelt thank you to all the publications who took interest in our story!
